Agenda Item #20

Item Title
C-19 CVA Graduation Options and Activities

Issue/Rationale

Student enrollment in CVA is increasing each semester.  Parents and students are asking questions about their graduation ceremony options and whether or not they may participate in interscholastic activities at their zoned school.  State laws have made this a requirement for School Districts.

Recommended Action

A committee was convened and recommends the following policies pertaining to this topic:

-For the 2011-12 school year, seniors completing their 12th grade year as either part-time or full-time CVA students will be eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony at their zoned school.

-Beginning in 2012-13, full-time students who have earned at least 50% of their high school graduation credits in CVA will participate in the CVA graduation ceremony.

-Parents who wish for their student to attend the graduation ceremony at the school where the student earned a majority of graduation credits may indicate this in writing at the time of CVA enrollment for the student's senior year.

-Students in  CVA are eligible to purchase tickets and attend such events as Prom, Homecoming, Grad Bash, etc., as long as they meet the criteria for eligibility established by the school.  Field trips and club activities are not considered to be eligible events.

-Students must inform the school 15 days in advance of their interest in attending an eligible event.  CVA administrators will notify each school as to each student's eligibility to attend.

-Schools are not required to contact CVA students with information about events in order to make the students aware of interscholastic activities.
